Panchkula: To address waterlogging, improve sewer connectivity and ensure smoother drainage during routine operations and the monsoon, HSVP has initiated a drainage and public health maintenance project in the trans-Ghaggar sectors of Panchkula Extension.According to HSVP, the project involves constructing manholes and road gullies and laying a 200mm stormwater pipeline. The work will be carried out primarily in Sector 27 and will support routine public health maintenance across sectors 23 to 28, 31 & 32.Officials said the works aim to strengthen stormwater management, reduce waterlogging and improve sewer linkages in the area. The project has an estimated cost of Rs 1.69 lakh and comes with a two-month completion deadline from the date of commencement. The tendering process is expected to conclude this month, with work likely to begin in March. Officials said the short timeline indicates that the project is a focused maintenance and improvement exercise rather than large-scale construction.“The project reflects our focus on strengthening basic urban infrastructure and ensuring that sewerage and drainage systems remain functional through timely maintenance,” an HSVP official said.Several parts of Panchkula Extension face recurring waterlogging during heavy rain, with roads, markets and residential areas often inundated due to clogged or damaged gullies. Residents have frequently criticised the lack of pre-monsoon cleaning. Authorities expect the new works to mitigate the issue ahead of the next monsoon.
