Gandhinagar: A doctor was allegedly found selling ‘medicine’ that had no manufacturing licence or product approvals, besides repackaging a Vitamin B-Complex formulation into 100ml bottles and selling it under his own brand. The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) seized the stock and other material worth Rs 66,400 in a raid on a clinic in Kapadvanj taluka’s Dholikui area on Friday.Acting on specific intelligence, a team from the Nadiad divisional office raided the clinic on Aug 7. The team found 160 transparent 100ml plastic bottles containing a red-coloured liquid, none of which carried labels. Samples of the suspected medicine were collected and the stock seized for further investigation.The raid also led to the seizure of labels bearing the name ‘Ratvani medicine’, around 1,000 empty bottles and 92 filled 4.5-litre plastic containers of Vitamin B-Complex medicine, besides used empty containers. The total value of the seized material was estimated at Rs 66,400.According to the preliminary inquiry, the doctor, who holds a BHMS degree and runs the clinic, had allegedly been carrying out the activity for around five years. Investigators found that he procured a Vitamin B-Complex formulation manufactured by a Mumbai pharma company, from an Ahmedabad drugs trader. He allegedly repackaged the formulation into 100ml bottles at the clinic, affixed his own ‘Ratvani’ label and sold them to patients for Rs 80 each.The inspection also found no batch manufacturing records, stock registers or sales invoices.
