Bengaluru: Describing Bengaluru as India’s foremost technology gateway to United States, chief minister DK Shivakumar Friday urged the Donald Trump administration to establish a full-fledged consulate in the city, saying it will significantly strengthen collaboration in technology, innovation, research, defence, space and aviation.Speaking after inaugurating the Quantum exhibition, Shivakumar said the city is home to more than 700 American companies, over 10,000 startups and 1 million technology professionals, making it America’s largest technology and innovation partner in India. “We are not asking for a trade office. Bengaluru deserves a permanent diplomatic mission that will further deepen cooperation in research, innovation and emerging technologies,” Shivakumar said.He said govt is prepared to provide state-level approvals for setting up the consulate and will work closely with US embassy to facilitate the process. The CM sought the support of ambassador Sergio Gore in forging partnerships with leading US universities, research institutions and innovation hubs to promote collaboration in research, skill development, startups and emerging technologies.
