Bhubaneswar: Timely intervention by Dhauli police in Bhubaneswar saved the life of a 25‑year‑old B.Tech graduate who attempted suicide after posting a distress video on Facebook on Tuesday night. Around 8.50 pm on Tuesday, complainant Badal Kumar Jena of Uttara under Dhauli police station limits alleged that his son, Akash Kumar Jena, uploaded a video on social media declaring his intent to end his life. “In the clip, Akash, speaking in Hindi, cited depression and emotional turmoil as reasons for his decision,” a police officer said.Police said Akash slipped into depression after his relationship with a girl from West Bengal faced opposition from both families. Earlier in the day, he had left home without informing anyone. By evening, his friends alerted the family about the Facebook post. “Immediately after receiving the information, we formed a team that swung into action. We treated it as a life‑and‑death situation. Human and technical intelligence were mobilised without delay,” DCP Jagmohan Meena said.Police said initially Akash’s mobile phone was found switched off. Another number linked to him was traced, and police combined digital tracking with field intelligence to locate him. He was eventually found at a hotel near Chintamaniswar under Laxmisagar police station limits.“The door which was locked from inside was broken open. By then, Akash had inflicted deep cuts on both hands with a sharp object and was bleeding heavily. He was in a critical state. We rushed him to Capital Hospital in our vehicle without wasting a moment,” another police officer said. Doctors at Capital Hospital sutured his injuries and declared his condition stable after treatment.Police officials stressed the importance of timely reporting by families and friends. “Social media posts of this nature must never be ignored. Immediate alerting of police can make the difference between life and death,” the officer said.
