T’puram: District administration asked Southern Railway authorities to complete the work on Vattavila Suresh Road, part of which the state govt handed over to the railway for line doubling work, and to send the compliance report at the earliest. In her communication to Southern Railway deputy chief engineer (construction), the deputy collector (LA), on behalf of district collector, said the railway representatives agreed to construct a safe retaining wall and a tarred road to address the demands and concerns expressed by Nemom Action Council at a hearing held at the collectorate on Feb 19. When the violation of safety measures by railway was pointed out at the hearing, railway representative promised to construct a safe retaining wall, a promise the railway broke ever since the line doubling work started more than one and a half years ago. While the railway representatives agreed to construct a road to reconnect Vattavila Suresh Road with main road near Nemom railway station, the district administration is yet to answer why special tahsildar (LA) took over a portion of a public road without making adequate arrangements for additional land acquisition to connect the byroad with the main road.
