Sharad ChandraDhanbad: In a major initiative to make Dhanbad cleaner and healthier, the district council (zila parishad) and Dhanbad Municipal Corporation have entered into a special collaboration to strengthen sanitation work across the district, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.Under the joint initiative, garbage heaps lying unattended for years in areas under the jurisdiction of the zila parishad will now be cleared by the municipal corporation using its manpower and modern sanitation resources. As part of the campaign, nearly 18 tonnes of garbage were lifted on Friday from Harina Chowk in Baghmara block.Deputy development commissioner Sunny Raj said the initiative was launched after authorities observed that several rural pockets were struggling with mounting waste due to a lack of proper sanitation infrastructure and resources. The zila parishad did not have adequate vehicles, equipment, or sanitation workers to carry out regular garbage disposal work, resulting in waste accumulation in many localities.“The collaboration is aimed at ensuring that every part of Dhanbad, including rural and semi-urban regions, gets access to proper cleanliness services,” he said.Officials stated that the municipal corporation will now deploy dumpers, waste-lifting vehicles, and sanitation workers in areas identified as garbage hotspots under the zila parishad. A special cleanliness campaign will also be conducted in villages and roadside settlements where waste disposal has become a major concern.Residents of many affected areas long complained about foul smell, unhygienic surroundings, and increasing risk of diseases caused by uncollected garbage. Authorities believe the new partnership will significantly improve the living conditions of people and help create a cleaner environment.DDC Sunny Raj urged people to dispose of waste only at designated places and cooperate with sanitation workers.
