Panaji: Goa DGP Alok Kumar has directed the police to identify and arrest drug suppliers feeding local dealers, aiming to dismantle narcotics networks in the state. He also ordered the freezing of assets linked to the drug trade to cut off traffickers’ financial strength.Investigations often stop after the first arrest and fail to trace who supplied the drugs. Kumar, therefore, told officers that every seizure must trigger a deeper probe up the supply chain.The DGP said he reviews the anti-drug drive during regular meetings with IGPs, DIGs, senior anti-narcotics cell (ANC) officers, and district police. “I have to increase the visibility of police, identify small and big drug dealers, and act against them,” he said.Goa police will coordinate with state and central agencies and other stakeholders, strengthen data analysis, and recommend policy changes where needed. The department will also push for faster forensic test results in NDPS cases through time-bound coordination with forensic laboratories.A senior officer said the focus will be on generating actionable intelligence and using NDPS Act provisions and related laws to sever supply lines by taking stringent action against manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, and peddlers. A task force committee will work with central agencies to curb illicit drug trafficking.The issue has been raised by MLAs, including concerns about drugs in villages and educational institutions, and state govt has assured action against peddlers. Drug seizure value in 2025 has reportedly risen by nearly 700% compared to 2024.
