Patna: In a bid to tighten law and order and bring greater transparency in district policing, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has appointed senior police officers as nodal officers for various districts across the state. The decision, aimed at improving coordination between district units and police headquarters, reflects the state govt’s system of assigning districts to ministers and senior bureaucrats. An official order in this regard was issued by the Police Headquarters on April 9.Under the new arrangement, additional director general (ADG) Nayyar Hasanain Khan has been entrusted with the responsibility of Patna. Drawing on his long experience as Patna’s senior superintendent of police and zonal inspector general, Khan is expected to play a key role in monitoring law and order and assisting in the resolution of major criminal cases, aided by his familiarity with the district’s geography and crime networks.Similarly, ADG Ravindran Shankaran has been assigned Gaya, ADG Amit Kumar Jain Saran and Buxar, and ADG R Malar Vizhi Nalanda. Inspector generals Sanjay Kumar and Premlatha have been given charge of Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur, respectively.According to the order, ADG Amit Lodha will oversee Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura, while ADG Sanjay Singh has been made responsible for Siwan and Purnia. ADG Ajitabh Kumar has been assigned Gopalganj and Khagaria. DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon has been given charge of Rohtas, and DIG Harpreet Kaur of Bhabhua, with a focus on strengthening policing in Naxal-affected and border regions.In another set of postings, IG Ranjeet Kumar Mishra has been allotted Madhubani, IG P Kannan Jamui and Araria, and IG Anusuya Ransingh Sahu Aurangabad, with officials expecting tighter checks on infiltration and smuggling in border districts. ADG Kamal Kishore Singh will oversee Samastipur, IG Manoj Kumar Vaishali, DIG Anand Kumar East Champaran, and DIG Meenu Kumari Begusarai.As per the new system, nodal officers will regularly visit their assigned districts, review pending cases and guide local police officials. The initiative is expected to improve accountability, enhance coordination with headquarters and strengthen overall policing across Bihar.
