Prayagraj: Devotees on Sunday thronged Sangam to perform rituals and offer prayers to their ancestors on the first day of Pitru Paksha.Devotees arriving at Sangam to perform rituals were spotted approaching pandas and priests sitting on the banks of Ganga on the first day of Pitru Paksha while tracing their family roots.A priest at Sangam said that they keep a detailed record of every devotee who comes to them to offer prayers to ancestors. He added that the majority of devotees are drawn towards Sangam to trace back their roots as the record holds the details of their forefathers including when they last visited the place.Meanwhile, Anamika Chaudhary, regional coordinator of the Ganga Vichar Manch, on Sunday said that during Pitru Paksha, the first offering should be made to Bhishma Pitamah before offering oblations to one’s own ancestors. It is said that offering water to Bhishma Pitamah alleviates Pitru Dosha, fosters the growth of the lineage and brings blessings from satisfied ancestors. Performing Bhishma tarpan on the banks of Ganga at Prayagraj yields manifold spiritual benefits.
