Pune: Deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar on Wednesday reviewed the progress of a high-level committee formed to address Chakan’s mounting infrastructure and traffic challenges, directing authorities to expedite safety and civic improvement measures.“Chakan is a major industrial centre and a lot of residents, as well as corporate officials from within and outside the country, visit the area. So, it is necessary to maintain the safety, cleanliness and basic infrastructure here,” the deputy CM said in a statement, directing the committee to assess the need for additional police stations and seeking enhanced security arrangements in the area.District collector Jitendra Dudi said the administration would deploy 100 Maharashtra Security Force personnel from next week to improve traffic management and safety.Road repairs have been prioritised, and officials have been directed to patch all potholes by Aug 31. Dudi said an action plan with immediate and long-term measures was in place, with progress to be reviewed every Friday. “Parking remains a key issue in the industrial belt due to heavy daily truck movement. To reduce congestion, temporary truck parking will be set up on vacant MIDC land. Plans are afoot to remove roadside encroachments within a month and shift illegally parked trucks to designated parking areas,” he said.Restrictions on heavy vehicles during peak hours are under consideration too, and industries have been urged to stagger shift timings to ease traffic pressure. As part of long-term measures, the administration plans waste-processing facilities for 19 villages and the MIDC area, along with walkways and safer road infrastructure to improve pedestrian safety.Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey said encroachments would be cleared and roads widened wherever necessary to ease traffic flow.
