Varanasi youths vandalized a restaurant and assaulted staff after being denied noodles late Saturday.

VARANASI: Around 15 youths allegedly vandalised a restaurant, assaulted its staff and later set a car on fire after the eatery could not serve them noodles in the Sarsauli area under Cantt police station limits late Saturday.The youths also allegedly assaulted an employee of another restaurant in the nearby Chandmari area and demanded Rs 5,000 as extortion.According to the restaurant owner, the youths arrived late at night and demanded noodles. When they were told it was not available, they got angry. The situation soon escalated and the accused allegedly vandalised the restaurant and assaulted the staff.While leaving, the youths allegedly set a car parked outside the restaurant on fire. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the restaurant.The accused then reportedly surrounded an employee of another restaurant on the way and beat him with hockey sticks and rods, creating panic in the area. The restaurant owner also claimed that the youths demanded Rs 5,000 as extortion during the incident.After receiving information, Cantt police reached the spot and started an investigation. Complaints have been submitted by the owners of both restaurants. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused.Police said further action will be taken based on the complaints and CCTV footage. The allegations of arson, vandalism, assault and extortion are being investigated.
