NEW DELHI: Sarabjeet Singh (37), the man accused of breaching the high-security Delhi Assembly complex in a dramatic SUV intrusion, has been sent to eight-day police custody, as investigators piece together details of his background, movements, and motivations.A resident of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, Singh comes from a financially well-off family with extensive agricultural land holdings in the Tarai belt. Some of his relatives are involved in the transport business, while Singh himself has claimed on social media to run his own business. He completed his schooling at Springdale College and later pursued higher studies at a college in Bareilly.Singh’s digital footprint reflects a strong fascination with cars and driving. In social media reels, he is seen carefully washing his SUV and, in another clip, driving at a speed of 183 kmph — a detail now under scrutiny as investigators examine his pattern of behaviour behind the wheel. His posts also indicate support for the farmers’ protest, offering a glimpse into his public positions.Police said Singh had been travelling across states, including Punjab and Chandigarh, in the days leading up to the incident. He told investigators he was searching for his missing nephew, Harman, who had disappeared from west Delhi’s Hari Nagar on April 2. This claim has been corroborated, with officials confirming that a missing child case had indeed been registered.During interrogation, Singh appeared disoriented, claiming, “I was looking for my missing nephew… someone fed me opium… I don’t know what happened, but I did not do anything wrong.” Police said he had also attempted to contact individuals he believed could connect him to “high-ranking officials” who might help him.His family rushed to Delhi after the incident and submitted documents to police, asserting that he has no prior criminal record.CCTV footage confirmed that Singh was alone during the breach.Delhi assembly breach: What happened

Police are now using the custody period to reconstruct Singh’s movements, examine his mental health claims, and determine whether the breach was a result of distress-driven behaviour or a deeper lapse in security protocols.
