New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has floated a Rs 3.2 crore tender to appoint a design consultant for the construction of the proposed Central Vista depot near Majlis Park. The upcoming depot is being built for phase-VA expansion, where metro trains will also pass through the Central Vista area, which is under redevelopment.“A tender has been issued for engagement of detailed design consultant for architectural and electrical and mechanical design works for Central Vista Depot (adjoining Majlis Park Station on Line 8) at grade and at elevated level,” said an official.Depots play a crucial role in Delhi Metro operations, serving as facilities for routine maintenance, inspection and cleaning of trains before the start of revenue service.DMRC currently operates 14 depots across its network. With new corridors under construction, the Central Vista depot has been planned to cater primarily to phase VA requirements. This includes the Central Vista corridor on the 10-km-long RK Ashram to Indraprastha corridor, which will provide connectivity to all the Kartavya Bhawans, providing doorstep connectivity to the office-goers and visitors in this area. It will also connect the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum (near Rakabganj Gurudwara) and Shivaji Stadium. DMRC estimates that around 60,000 office-goers and nearly 2 lakh visitors will benefit from the corridor daily.Once this corridor is added, the Magenta Line will extend to 88.4 km, making it the longest corridor in the DMRC network. Running from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, it is planned to operate as a fully driverless line. The Magenta Line will serve stations across Noida, south Delhi and central Delhi, and will feature 21 interchange stations — the highest for any DMRC corridor — significantly enhancing cross-city connectivity. With this, the Magenta Line will overtake the Pink Line, which is currently the longest at over 71.5 km with 46 stations. The Pink Line is also the only circular corridor in the DMRC network.Apart from the RK Ashram Marg-Indraprastha corridor, two other corridors have been approved under phase VA: the Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj extension and the Aerocity-Terminal 1 corridor. Both will be extensions of the upcoming Golden Line.At present, DMRC’s network spans 416 km with 303 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line and Rapid Metro Gurgaon. Additionally, five new corridors are under construction as part of phase IV expansion.
