In a chilling case from Begusarai, the court has sentenced Vikas Kumar to death for the gruesome killing of three family members—his brother, sister-in-law, and niece—during the festive night of Diwali in 2019. The judge condemned the act as barbaric, revealing that a bitter land feud fueled this act of violence.

Begusarai: A local court on Thursday awarded the death penalty to a man convicted in a triple murder case dating back to Oct 2019.Additional public prosecutor Ram Prakash Yadav said the court of additional district and sessions judge-III Brajesh Kumar Singh sentenced Vikas Kumar to death after finding him guilty of murdering his brother, his brother’s wife and his niece.

The incident took place on the night of Diwali at Machha village under Singhaul police station in Begusarai district. “Considering the convict’s crime as heinous, the judge awarded him capital punishment,” the additional public prosecutor said.According to the prosecution, on the Diwali night, Vikas shot his brother Kunal Kumar, Kunal’s wife Kanchan Devi and their 17-year-old daughter Sonam Kumari while they were celebrating the festival. He also attempted to shoot his nephew Shivam, who was present at the spot, but the bullet missed him and he managed to escape.Shivam said Vikas had earlier shot dead his uncle and aunt in a land dispute in 2012. “He suspected Kunal could take his properties which led him to kill my father, mother and my sister,” he said.Vikas had been lodged in Beur jail in Patna. The court pronounced the sentence through videoconferencing.
