A dead rat was discovered inside a branded namkeen packet opened in Rajpur town.

KANPUR: A dead rat was found inside a branded namkeen packet when it was opened in Rajpur town in Kanpur Dehat, and a video linked to the incident surfaced on social media. TOI however does not confirm the veracity of the viral video.The incident occurred on Wednesday when Javed Khan, a resident of Nai Basti, bought an Rs 80 namkeen packet for children from a grocery shop near Mugal Road in Rajpur, about 35 kilometres from the district headquarters.According to the video, as soon as the youth opened the packet bought from the grocery shop and looked inside, a dead rat was lying in it. He complained to the shopkeeper. A crowd gathered at the spot, and during this, someone made a video of the entire matter and shared it on social media.Khan said that as soon as he opened the packet and put his hand inside while sitting in front of the shop, he saw a dead rat lying among the namkeen. He informed the shopkeeper, and people nearby gathered at the spot. After the incident, local people made a video of the namkeen packet and the baby rat lying in it, and shared it on social media.A complaint was also made to officials of the Food Safety Department over phone. Khan demanded that the Food Safety Department investigate the matter and take action against those responsible.Food Safety Officer Pradeep Patel said, “Today the team will investigate the namkeen packet, food material, and related facts. Only after the investigation will it be clear how the baby rat reached the namkeen packet and who is responsible for it. Action will be taken as per rules on the basis of the facts that emerge in the investigation.”
