Times News NetworkKanpur:The water level of the Ganga has increased swiftly, prompting the Kanpur administration in alert mode. On Wednesday, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, accompanied by other senior officials, boarded a steamer to conduct a thorough inspection of seven significant ghats along the Ganga river.Currently, the water level of the Ganga is approximately 1 metre below the warning threshold at Kanpur Barrage (114 metres).Approximately 2 lakh 91 thousand cusecs of water is being released from the Kanpur Barrage, resulting in a continuous rise in water levels. The upstream water level at the barrage was recorded at 113.57 metres, while the downstream level was noted at 113.42 metres.The Police Commissioner assessed the area from Sarsaiya Ghat to Atal Ghat via steamer, during which the security measures at these ghats were reviewed. A 36-member team from the NDRF has been deployed to address any potential emergencies or flood threats. Additionally, a total of 100 local divers and water police have been stationed at the ghats to prevent anyone from entering deep waters.Security barricades have been established at all major bathing ghats, and the public is being continuously warned through loudspeakers. The administration has set up emergency control rooms to provide assistance as needed. All boating activities and bathing in the Ganga river have been completely prohibited. Residents, especially children, have been instructed to keep a safe distance from the riverbanks and deep waters. Individuals living in low-lying and riverside regions have been advised to remain vigilant and, if necessary, relocate to shelter homes.
