Srinagar, July 27 : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Monday chaired a meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee to review the progress of the intensified anti-drug enforcement drive being carried out under the 100-Day Jammu & Kashmir Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. Sundeep Chakravarthy, attended the meeting, which focused on assessing the impact of coordinated enforcement measures aimed at curbing drug trafficking and substance abuse across Srinagar.
The meeting was attended by Regional Transport Officer Kashmir Qazi Irfan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, SP Headquarters Umar Shah, Joint Commissioner SMC Nuzhat Khurshid, IAS Probationer Alfred Thomas, SDM West Irfan Bahadur, SDM East Zubair Ahmad, Chief Education Officer Ghulam Mohi-Din, District Social Welfare Officer Mohammad Yousuf, officers from the Excise Department, Drug Control Organisation, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Anti-Trafficking Forces (ATFs), and other concerned departments.
During the review, the committee evaluated the district’s anti-drug strategy, including enforcement measures, preventive initiatives, rehabilitation efforts, and the outcomes achieved during the recently concluded 100-day campaign.
Officials informed the meeting that intensified enforcement operations, supported by coordinated efforts of the police, civil administration and other stakeholder departments, had produced significant results. The drive focused on dismantling drug trafficking networks, disrupting the financial infrastructure supporting narcotics trade, and ensuring strict legal action against those involved.
According to the figures presented before the NCORD Committee, authorities have registered 169 FIRs and arrested 238 alleged drug peddlers during the campaign. Illegal movable and immovable properties worth approximately ₹103 crore linked to drug traffickers have been attached, while 89 bank accounts have been frozen as part of ongoing financial investigations.
The committee was further informed that enforcement agencies have suspended 101 driving licences, 59 vehicle registration certificates (RCs) and 70 chemist licences for violations related to narcotics. Authorities have also recommended the suspension of passports and Aadhaar numbers of several accused persons under the relevant legal provisions.
Reviewing the progress of the campaign, DC Akshay Labroo and SSP Dr. Sundeep Chakravarthy appreciated the coordinated efforts of the civil administration, police and allied departments. They stressed the need for sustained, intelligence-based enforcement to eliminate the drug menace and ensure lasting outcomes under the ongoing anti-drug campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to further strengthen inter-departmental coordination and intensify action against drug peddlers and trafficking networks to ensure a safer and drug-free environment in Srinagar. He also emphasised the importance of adopting a comprehensive strategy that combines strict law enforcement with awareness campaigns, counselling and rehabilitation measures, particularly to protect the youth from substance abuse.
SSP Srinagar reiterated the police’s commitment to continuing the crackdown on narcotics-related activities in coordination with civil authorities and appealed to the public to actively support law enforcement by reporting drug-related offences.
