Times News NetworkHazaribag: Deputy commissioner Hemant Sati during a surprise inspection of the district archives and the registration office on Saturday directed officials to strengthen the preservation of historical records, ensure transparency in issuing certified copies and tighten scrutiny in the land registration process.Reviewing old records, including several dating back to the British era, the DC said, “Hazaribag, being a former divisional headquarters, also houses land records of other districts. Their proper upkeep should be important. Ensure scientific classification of records, proper indexing and regular chemical treatment to preserve old documents.“Expressing concern over attempts to misuse certified land records, Sati directed that authenticated copies be issued only to legal heirs or authorised persons after verification of genealogy certified by the concerned circle office. He also instructed that land-related records should not be provided through the Right to Information (RTI) route to prevent misuse.The DC ordered strict access control at the archives, strengthened security and regular monitoring of CCTV cameras.Inspecting the registration archives, Sati directed officials to verify all documents thoroughly before registering property transactions. He said registration of jointly owned property should be allowed only with the consent of all stakeholders. Warning deed writers against preparing misleading documents, the DC said licences of violators would be cancelled and officials responsible for irregular registrations would face disciplinary action.
