Mandya: With the monsoon season approaching, Mandya deputy commissioner Kumara on Thursday directed officials to ensure the timely supply of quality seeds and fertilisers to farmers across the district.During a review meeting on seeds and fertiliser supply and distribution for 2026-27 monsoon season, he stressed that farmers must receive reliable agricultural inputs without delay. Kumara instructed officials to personally verify the quality of seeds, before distribution, and warned against the sale of substandard seeds and fertilisers. He called for action against traders who were found violating quality norms, emphasising that farmers should not suffer losses due to poor-quality input during the crucial sowing season. To ensure transparency in fertiliser distribution, the DC ordered all fertiliser outlets to prominently display stock availability and price lists. Fertiliser inspectors were directed to conduct regular inspections and field visits to monitor supplies and prevent artificial shortages or hoarding. Highlighting sustainable farming practices, Kumara also urged officials to promote the use of green manure as an eco-friendly alternative to excessive use of chemical fertiliser. He directed departments to ensure the timely availability of pesticides, seeds and other essential agricultural materials.During the meeting, officials discussed the mandatory use of the farmer registration and unified beneficiary Information System (FRUITS ID) for purchasing fertilisers and availing govt schemes. Farmers have been advised to visit nearby Raitha Samparka Kendras to obtain a new FID or link their land survey numbers with existing IDs.Officials noted that the FRUITS ID is essential for receiving PM-Kisan benefits, drought relief assistance and govt subsidies. Kumara instructed agricultural officers to launch awareness campaigns on FRUITS registration and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, ensuring farmers enrol for crop insurance within the prescribed deadlines.
