Berhampur: A day after she lodged a rape complaint at a Ganjam police station, a 20-year-old woman allegedly attempted self-immolation behind her house after pouring kerosene on herself on Saturday.The woman, who sustained around 50% burn injuries, was first rushed to the local subdivisional hospital by her parents and later shifted to a bigger facility. Her condition is stated to be critical. The exact reason behind her suicide attempt is not known, said Damodar Bihari, the inspector in charge of the local police station, adding the woman on Friday had filed a rape complaint against a man, with whom she had been in a relationship since 2022. Her statement was scheduled to be recorded on Saturday, he added. “We are also investigating whether the rape accused had any role in her self-immolation attempt,” an officer said.
