Lucknow: A day after a Class XII student died in a motorcycle crash while attempting a high-speed stunt near Janeshwar Mishra Park, Lucknow Police intensified enforcement against reckless biking in Gomti Nagar Extension and urged parents not to buy powerful sports bikes for minors.Police officials said the area, known for its wide roads and relatively low traffic during late evening hours, increasingly turns into a hotspot for youngsters performing dangerous stunts and recording videos for social media. According to Gomti Nagar Extension inspector Sudhir Awasthi, police have been taking action over the past two years to curb the trend. Data shows that 21 FIRs were registered, and more than 300 vehicles were seized in the locality for offences such as stunting, rash driving and overspeeding. “In many instances, we find teenagers riding heavy and high-powered sports motorcycles. Parents must understand that such bikes are not meant for minors. Buying expensive sports bikes for children who are not mature enough to handle them can put their lives in danger,” Awasthi said. Police records show that in 2025 alone, 281 vehicles were seized during enforcement drives in the area. During the same year, 16 FIRs were lodged, while nearly 150 riders caught performing stunts were warned and counselled by police teams. The crackdown continued this year as well. In the first three months of 2026, police have already registered five FIRs, seized 45 vehicles and counselled around 100 riders who were caught overspeeding or attempting stunts on public roads. Awasthi said police teams conduct regular checking drives on the stretch, especially during weekends and late evenings when groups of bikers tend to gather. “Our teams often carry out surprise checks. Sometimes police personnel also monitor the stretch in civvies to identify riders performing stunts. Once such activity is noticed, nearby patrol units immediately move in and take action,” he said. Following the recent fatal accident, police have stepped up surveillance in the area. A mobile patrol vehicle is now deployed permanently near the accident-prone stretch to keep a close watch on bikers’ activity and prevent stunt riding. Officials said strict action will continue against violators, stressing that reckless stunts and overspeeding not only violate traffic rules but also pose a serious threat to the safety of riders and other commuters on the road.
