Hyderabad: Cyberabad and Malkajgiri traffic police conducted special drives against drunk driving on Friday snd Saturday, booking a total of 828 offenders.Hyderabad traffic police caught 464 drivers, including 408 two-wheeler riders, 30 three-wheeler drivers and 26 four-wheeler drivers. In Cyberabad, 205 offenders were arrested, while Malkajgiri reported 159 cases. Most offenders were found with blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, with a smaller number exceeding 300 mg/100 ml. All offenders will be produced before the court. Police said strict enforcement will continue with zero tolerance for drunken driving. Authorities also warned that causing fatal accidents under the influence of alcohol will attract charges under Section 105 of the BNS, which carries up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine. In addition, courts disposed of several drunken driving cases during the past week, awarding penalties including fines, social service and imprisonment in some instances. tnn
