Ranchi: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) nabbed three cyber criminals for keeping a senior citizen from Garhwa district under digital arrest and coercing him to transfer Rs 38 lakh through internet banking, it said on Friday.In a statement, the CID said the accused were arrested from East Singhbhum district. While Rohit Jain was arrested from Ghatshila, Lokesh Mahto and Sanjeev Mishra were arrested from Kadma police station limits on Thursday. Mobile phones and sim cards were seized from them.On Feb 27 this year, the elderly man filed a written complaint with the cyber crime police station in Ranchi. He said the cyber criminals contacted him posing as law enforcement officials and accused him in a money laundering case. The victim was threatened with legal action and forced to transfer the money to avoid arrest.The CID stated that no central govt agency or state police force demands payment via video calls. It said that people should never transfer money under any kind of pressure or threat from unknown individuals.
