Ahmedabad, March 12 (IANS) Gujarat’s Ahmedabad is set for sustained high temperatures this week after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heatwave conditions and high maximum temperatures through March 19.

Ranchi: Heat wave-like conditions prevailed in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts on Saturday, the Met office said. A yellow warning of heatwave has been issued for these districts on Sunday as well.Deputy director of Ranchi Met office, Abhishek Anand, said the maximum temperature will be 4-5 degrees Celsius above normal. “Conditions, however, may change during the second half of Sunday as there is a possibility of cloud cover,” he said.A few places may witness gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and thunderstorms in isolated places across 20 districts, barring Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar and Palamu. “A yellow warning has been issued for that also,” he said.“Formation of a deep trough and incursion of moisture from the Bay of Bengal will lead to thunderstorms and lightning in various places across the state. During thunderstorms, wind speeds can be around 40 kmph and reach up to 70 kmph,” Anand said.In the past 24 hours till Saturday morning, the highest maximum temperature of 39.9°C was recorded at Seraikela, while Gumla recorded a lowest temperature of 13.1°C. Ranchi recorded a maximum of 34.7°C and a minimum of 17.3°C.For Monday, the weather office said there is a possibility of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (50-60 gusting up to 70 kmph) at isolated places over eastern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand and issued an orange warning for 17 districts.For Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla and Simdega districts, the Met office issued a yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places.For Tuesday, there is a yellow warning for thunderstorms or lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places over the state. A similar warning has been issued for Wednesday at isolated places over the state, except Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar districts.
