Ranchi: City cybercrime police have asked X Corp to provide registration, login and device details of an account linked to the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, alleging that it has been circulating false and misleading content about state govt.The request was sent to the social media platform on Saturday in connection with a case registered at Kotwali police station on Aug 21. Police alleged that the account, @JPSCreformanch, had repeatedly posted videos, photographs and claims intended to create fear, unrest and social disharmony.Citing one post, investigators said the account falsely claimed that the “govt cheated students” and shared an allegedly doctored video captioned “JMM goons threatening students”. The notice said the content was aimed at provoking public fear and unrest.Police also referred to a post accusing the force of brutality and the govt of inaction. Investigators said such content could mislead people into believing that state govt was acting against students’ interests.Another post stating, “In a tribal state, the govt is abusing tribals”, was described in the notice as defamatory and intended to damage the govt’s reputation. Police further alleged that the account had used abusive and derogatory language against constitutional authorities and circulated videos capable of provoking communal and social discord. The notice cited Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.X Corp has been asked to furnish the account holder’s full name, residential address, phone number, alternate email address and other registration information. Police have also sought login and logout records with timestamps and IP addresses, including data for the week covering Aug 10 and the preceding period.The platform has additionally been asked to share details of devices used to access the account, including IMEI numbers, wherever available.The account, which has around 6,900 followers, was created this month by the Manch. The organisation led a 26-day agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. The protest was suspended after state govt cancelled 22 examinations conducted by the two commissions.
