A heated exchange between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Heinrich Klaasen broke out after the latter’s dismissal during their IPL 2026 clash in Chennai on Monday. The incident took place on the third ball of the 15th over of SRH’s chase when Noor Ahmad dismissed Klaasen with a stumping. Bowling from over the wicket, Noor delivered a googly outside off stump as Klaasen attempted to create room and play an inside-out shot. The ball spun away, beat the outside edge and Samson quickly removed the bails before Klaasen could drag his back foot inside the crease. Samson’s quick glove work drew comparisons with former CSK captain MS Dhoni. Klaasen was dismissed for 47 off 26 balls, with six fours and two sixes. As Klaasen walked back, he exchanged words with Samson near the pitch. The SRH batter even turned around while heading towards the dugout and continued the verbal exchange, making it clear that the conversation was not a friendly one.SRH eventually won the match by 5 wickets. They along with GT qualified for the playoffs.Earlier, Pat Cummins produced a three-wicket spell to help restrict Chennai Super Kings to 180 for seven after the hosts elected to bat first.Samson gave CSK a fast start by hitting Nitish Kumar Reddy for 6, 4, 4 in the opening over to collect 17 runs. Kartik scored 32 off 19 balls and played shots including an inside-out boundary off Hinge and a pulled six against Shivang Kumar.Cummins returned to dismiss Kartik with a slower ball outside off stump before removing Gaikwad with a short ball. Gaikwad scored 15 off 21 balls before finding Eshan Malinga in the deep.Dewald Brevis then scored 44 off 27 balls and added 59 runs with Shivam Dube to help CSK recover. Brevis hit Cummins and Nitish for sixes during his innings before Malinga bowled him with a 141 kmph delivery.Dube and the lower-order batters tried to push CSK beyond 200, but the side finished on 180/7.
