CSK enter the contest under pressure after a disappointing outing in their opening match against Rajasthan Royals. Chennai batted first and were out for just 127 runs in 19.4 overs. Only Jamie Overton put up a fight with a score of 43. Their top order fell apart quickly, scoring only 41 runs in the powerplay, which set the tone for the rest of the innings.

In response, Rajasthan easily chased down the target, getting to 128/2 in just 12.1 overs, powered by quick 15-ball half-century from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

This heavy defeat exposed CSK’s batting fragility and lack of control with the ball, issues they will aim to address at their home ground, Chepauk, where spin is expected to play a major role.

Combinations for both teams

Punjab Kings, on the other hand, must be confident about themselves after playing well in all areas in their last game against Gujarat Titans. Their bowling unit, led by Arshdeep Singh, was crucial in restricting the opposition from scoring, and their batting lineup showed depth and calmness in a successful chase. The strong middle-order core of PBKS is shown by the contributions of players like Shreyas Iyer and Marcus Stoinis.

Looking at predicted XIs, CSK should stick with a lineup that works well at home. Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad will anchor the top order, and Shivam Dube will still be an important middle-order enforcer. The bowling attack, which includes Noor Ahmad and a multiple pace options, will try to take advantage of Chepauk’s slower surface.

There is, however, a potential boost for Chennai with Dewald Brevis likely to return, his inclusion could add much-needed firepower to the middle order, an area that looked vulnerable in the previous match.

PBKS, meanwhile, appear more settled with a balanced XI. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya provide an aggressive start, while captain Shreyas Iyer anchors the innings. The presence of all-rounders like Marcus Stoinis and Marco Jansen adds flexibility, while Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal form a strong bowling core.

Predicted XIs:

Chennai Super Kings: Sanju Samson (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Kartik Sharma, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Matt Henry, Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed. Impact Sub: Rahul Chahar

Punjab Kings: Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (c), Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal. Impact Sub: Priyansh Arya

With CSK looking to bounce back at home and PBKS aiming to build on early momentum, the clash could be shaped significantly by how these combinations perform under pressure.
