Prayagraj: A wanted criminal was injured and arrested after an encounter in Pratapgarh late on Sunday night. The police seized a country-made pistol of 0.315 bore, four used and two unused cartridges, a motorcycle without registration, and sharp edge knives, ropes etc from the criminal identified as Suleman.He was admitted to the district hospital for treatment.Police said a joint team of Antoo police was conducting routine checks near Chamrauda bridge road when they noticed two suspicious men on a motorcycle. The cops signalled them to stop, but they tried to escape. However, when the police team surrounded them, one of them opened fire. The cops retaliated, resulting in an injury to one of them while the other escaped.Police said Suleman, a resident of Rampur Kurmiyan (Kandhai) village of Pratapgarh, has six criminal cases pending against him in the district. He was involved in cow smuggling and slaughtering.Meanwhile, a joint team of STF (Prayagraj unit) and Delhupur police on Monday arrested a criminal identified as Abdulla alias Noor Abdulla (46), a resident of Mauaima from Colonelganj area of Prayagraj district.He was carrying Rs50,000 cash reward on his head. Police said Abdulla was the prime accused involved in stealing two cows of a man from Barsanda village (Delhupur police station of Pratapgarh district) on Jan 16 and the carcass of stolen cows were later recovered near Amma bridge.Following the incident, Abdulla was booked under section 303(2) of BNS and section 3/5/8 of prevention of cow slaughter and smuggling Act. Since then, he was evading police action.
