Surat: City detection of crime branch (DCB) police nabbed history-sheeter Soyeb Maniyar alias Soyeb City in Rander, after spotting him driving a premium SUV. Serious offences including robbery have been registered against Maniyar in the past. With his arrest, DCB police are likely to bust a major car theft racket in which number plates are changed after theft.DCB sleuths were patrolling in Rander when they spotted a black premium SUV bearing the Rajasthan number RJ-01-CF-3711. They stopped the vehicle based on suspicion and asked the driver his name, to which he responded, identifying himself as Soyeb Maniyar, a resident of Limbayat. Maniyar produced papers of the car which showed that the car belonged to Sarjyapratap Singh Rathod of Nagaur in Rajasthan.However, a police verification regarding the car’s engine and chassis numbers revealed a mismatch. Further checking proved that the car is originally registered as RJ-25-CD-0700 in the name of Himanshu Sinor, who is a resident of Sawai Madhopur of Rajasthan.During the investigation, it was revealed that the car was stolen from Delhi in Oct 2025 and an offence for the same is registered with KN Katju Marg police station. Maniyar was taken to a police station and interrogated after it became clear that he was lying to cops.“Maniyar is a history-sheeter and was booked for serious crimes like murder, robbery and thefts in the past. He has five offences registered against him with Limbayat police. Maniyar was also arrested under GujCTOC in 2021. During investigation, he confessed to have stolen the car. Maniyar’s role has been found in the premium SUV car theft racket . We expect to arrest more people in this crime,” a crime branch official said.
