Kanpur: A locked licensed fireworks shop was gutted in an explosion on Shamsabad-Roshanabad road in Farrukhabad district on Thursday.The shop belonged to Safaruddin, a resident of Mohalla Meera Darwaza in Shamsabad Nagar Panchayat. He was at home when the explosion occurred around 2.30pm. Smoke billowed from the shop and bricks dislodged in the blast were thrown some distance, triggering panic among residents. Police, administrative officials and firefighters reached the spot and doused the flames.Kayamganj circle officer Ajay Verma said the the room was locked since July. Around 3-4kg of gunpowder mixture was reportedly stored inside.Safaruddin has been supplying fireworks for wedding processions for several years and holds a licence to manufacture Chatri and Anar fireworks.Kayamganj SDM Abhishek Verma, CO Ajay Verma and station house officer Sachin Chaudhary inspected the site. A field unit and the CFO team are examining the scene, while police are gathering information to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
