Berhampur: Panic gripped the city after three persons reportedly tested positive for Covid-19. One of them is undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, while the other two are in self-isolation.The 54-year-old woman from Purushottampur block was admitted to hospital due to respiratory ailments. Her RT-PCR test returned positive, sources said. Her condition is good, sources added.Special secretary, health and family welfare department, Santosh Mishra, who visited the medical college and hospital here on Wednesday, confirmed about a Covid patient undergoing treatment. He said no Covid case has been reported from any other part of the state.Superintendent of the medical college and hospital Sudeepa Das said the woman admitted to hospital does not show any Covid symptom but has been kept in isolation.Two weeks ago, at least two patients reportedly died of Covid-19 in Andhra Pradesh, while several others were infected. Chief district medical officer Bhabani Shankar Mishra had alerted medical officers and medical college authorities as Ganjam is very close to Andhra Pradesh. He has asked all govt-run hospitals in the district for mandatory Covid-19 tests for all patients reporting severe acute respiratory illness and conduct random tests for the deadly virus for at least 5% of all patients with influenza-like illness.He has requested the medical officers to monitor the situation on a daily basis and report regarding the severe acute respiratory illness and influenza-like illness testing, infrastructure readiness and logistic status to the district public health unit. He has also directed them to assess and ensure the operational readiness of isolation wards, oxygen-supported beds and necessary medical logistics.
