Rourkela: Tension continued at a private hospital here for the second consecutive day, following death of a 17-year-old patient. His grieving family and relatives staged protests, alleging medical negligence.Agitators smashed glass panels at the hospital’s reception counter and pharmacy store, demanding accountability of the hospital authorities and the attending doctor. Police were deployed at the hospital to prevent any untoward incident and maintain law and order.The teenager, a resident of Sector-18 whose mother works as a Grade-IV employee at the hospital, was admitted on July 9 and underwent gallstone surgery on July 14. His condition reportedly deteriorated after the procedure and he was shifted to the intensive care unit, where he died on Tuesday.Following his death, family members and relatives accused the hospital of negligence and allegedly assaulted some staff members. Personnel from Raghunathpalli police station rushed to the spot and restored order.Though the body was kept in the hospital mortuary, the family initially refused to allow postmortem. On Wednesday, the bereaved family, joined by local residents, returned to the hospital and renewed their protest, iterating allegations of medical negligence.
