Vadodara: A husband-wife duo allegedly involved in drug trafficking was arrested by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) in Vadodara on Wednesday after police seized MD drugs worth over Rs 42 lakh from their vehicle.Acting on a tip-off, LCB learnt that Ayyub Pathan and his wife, Nazmeen, both residents of Madhya Pradesh, were travelling towards the city via Halol Road with a consignment of narcotics. Police laid a trap, intercepted their vehicle and detained the couple for questioning.During interrogation, the accused told investigators that they had procured the MD drugs from Jafar, a resident of Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. They further claimed that the consignment was meant to be delivered to an Ahmedabad resident identified as Ravi.Police have launched a search for Jafar and Ravi, both of whom are absconding.Besides the narcotics, police seized the vehicle used for transportation and other incriminating items. The total value of the seized property, including the drugs, has been estimated at Rs 57.19 lakh.
