Pune: Corporators from Wanowrie have urged Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to submit a proposal to Centre for extending the proposed double-decker flyover on Hadapsar Road up to Golibar Maidan Chowk, citing persistent traffic congestion in the area.Under the current plan, the double-decker structure, featuring a road flyover beneath the Metro viaduct, has been proposed between Bhairoba Nullah Chowk and Hadapsar. Former mayor and local corporator Prashant Jagtap said extending the project to Golibar Maidan Chowk would help address existing bottlenecks and prevent future traffic issues.“The work on the flyover is yet to begin. PMC and Maha Metro can still undertake a feasibility study for the extension and submit a proposal to Centre,” Jagtap said.

The proposal was recently tabled before the standing committee and has been referred to the civic administration for further examination and recommendations.The proposed Bhairoba Nullah Chowk-Hadapsar double-decker flyover is expected to integrate with the six-lane elevated corridor being built between Hadapsar and Yavat. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had last week laid the foundation stone for the Hadapsar-Yavat elevated road project.PMC officials said the elevated road was being executed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), while the double-decker flyover project will be undertaken by Maha Metro in coordination with the civic body.Recently, PMC and Maha Metro officials conducted a joint inspection of Hadapsar Road to review the proposed alignment. Discussions focused on land availability, traffic management and project execution challenges. During the inspection, elected representatives stressed the need for a comprehensive traffic management plan to prevent severe congestion during the construction phase. They also sought clarity on whether the existing flyovers at Hadapsar Chowk and the Magarpatta Road junction would need to be demolished to facilitate construction of the double-decker structure.Maha Metro ready to study Dive Ghat twin-tunnel proposalMaha Metro has expressed readiness to undertake a feasibility study for the twin tunnel project proposed by CM Devendra Fadnavis at Dive Ghat to improve connectivity to the proposed international airport in Purandar.Metro officials said a detailed project report (DPR) would be prepared once the agency receives formal communication from the government regarding the project.
