Kanpur: Two years after a BJP corporator and his aides assaulted and hurled a caste-based slur at a man, the Kanpur police on Wednesday registered an FIR against 11 accused at Nazirabad police station in the district.Police said corporator Pawan Gupta and others have been booked on allegations of attempted murder, robbery and making casteist remarks.Police said the case was filed on the directions of a court after the complainant alleged that no action was taken despite repeated complaints.The complainant, Akash Kumar of Ashok Nagar, told police he runs a pan masala kiosk in Nehru Nagar. He alleged that on March 29, 2024, after closing the kiosk and while returning home, he was stopped near a school in Nehru Nagar by the corporator and associates who demanded Holi donations. Kumar alleged that when he expressed inability to pay due to financial constraints, he was abused with caste-based slurs.He further alleged that when he objected, the accused assaulted him with kicks, punches, sticks, batons and iron rods. Kumar also alleged that his brother Varun, who arrived to intervene, was beaten. He claimed that during the incident, Rs 2,275 was snatched from his pocket. Police said both brothers were medically examined.Station in charge Pawan Kumar Singh said the case was registered under attempted murder, robbery, the SC/ST Act and other sections against Pawan Gupta and named associates, including Pankaj Gupta, Mayank Gupta alias Shalu, Hariom Verma, Ajay Yadav, Ashish Savita alias Nehra, Mukesh Gautam, Mithun Sharma alias Bholu Panchar, and two others.
