Prayagraj: As part of a statewide campaign, the sleuths of cyber cell on Thursday returned Rs 43.18 lakh to 484 victims of cyber fraud.The recovery effort was coordinated with the banks utilising the Money Restoration Module (MRM) Portal, developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.Cops mentioned that cyber cell teams monitor the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) 24×7 to quickly freeze the defrauded funds in suspicious accounts. Following bank verification and SOPs, frozen funds are updated on the MRM portal (https://mrm-ncrp.mha.gov.in) and returned directly to the victims’ accounts after document verification at the local police station level.The operation was supervised by Prayagraj Police Commissioner Piyush Mordia, along with Additional CP (law and order) Ajay Pal Sharma, Additional CP ( Headquarters) Vijay Dhull and DCP and nodal officer (cyber crime) Manish Kumar Shandilya, and led by cyber cell in charge Ghanshyam Yadav.Police said that the victims, whose funds have been frozen by banks via NCRP complaints, can reclaim their money through the MRM portal.Police urged citizens never to share bank account details with strangers or let anyone use their account for job offers or other inducements, as this can lead to account freezing and legal action. They also warned against allowing strangers to use a mobile number registered in one’s name. Citizens can verify the mobile numbers linked to their Aadhaar through the TAFCOP service on the government’s Sanchar Saathi portal: https://tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in/.People were further advised to stay away from investment, part-time job, and trading schemes promoted on platforms such as Telegram and Instagram. They were also cautioned against using online gaming apps, as related transactions are often connected to cybercrime.“In cases of cyber fraud, immediately dial the cyber helpline 1930, register a complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in, or report it to the Cyber Cell at your nearest police station,” said the police.
