Silchar: Cachar Police busted an alleged commercial sex racket at two spa centres on Thursday, arresting 28 women and the owner of one of the spas.The raids targeted two spas on Park Road after complaints from residents, additional SP (crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said on Friday.Police arrested 21 women from one spa and seven from another. A spa owner was also arrested. The owner of the other spa is absconding, and police have launched a manhunt.Pal said police seized several items during searches that allegedly indicate the premises were used for a commercial sex racket. A case was registered at Silchar Sadar police station under relevant provisions of the BNS and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.Police said some people may have fled during the operation, and investigators are working to identify others involved.According to police, most of the arrested women are not from Cachar and reportedly came from Jorhat, Sonitpur and Kamrup in Assam, and Dimapur in Nagaland. Investigators are probing whether the women were trafficked, coerced or travelled voluntarily, and whether an inter-district or inter-state network was operating.All accused were produced before a local court on Friday.
