Dwaipayan.GhoshKOLKATA: The Bidhannagar Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide against a Baguiati resident, following the death of his wife in Krishnapur Purbapara on Wednesday.Victim’s daughter, Baishaki Ghosh of Nimta, has lodged the complaint, alleging domestic violence over the years.The deceased, Bharati Ghosh, was found hanging inside a locked room by her daughter.After being alerted, police rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.The complainant has accused her father, Niranjan, of subjecting her mother to torture. She alleged her father extorted money from her mother, subjected her to physical abuse, and allegedly married another woman secretly.

The complainant stated that on July 20, the accused brought her mother to a residence in Krishnapur Purbapara, where he subjected her to further physical and psychological torture.Later, the couple’s second daughter discovered the woman hanging in the premises.The daughter alleged that the deceased had recorded a voice note on her phone before her death, holding her husband responsible. The family has demanded strict action against Niranjan or any other person, who may be involved in the case.Baguiati police has registered Case No. 529/2026 dated July 24, 2026, under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation has been started.
