Bhubaneswar: The city police on Wednesday secured conviction in a theft case in just 18 days. Sunil Sethi (26), the accused, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 for stealing five phones and a two-wheeler at his workplace in Badagada early on Aug 8.Police had arrested Sethi the next day after examining CCTV footage. The chargesheet was filed on Aug 14, and trial commenced on Aug 17.“On the basis of witness examination and strong evidence presented by the prosecution, judicial magistrate first class (IV) Somesh Somyajit Panda convicted Sethi. Securing a speedy conviction in just 18 days is a significant achievement for us,” said a senior police officer.
