Bhubaneswar: Odisha has received 30.9% excess rainfall so far this monsoon, revenue and disaster management department in an official statement said here on Wednesday. It said that no district has reported deficient or scanty rainfall so far. The official statement said the state recorded 1,103.9 mm rainfall between June 1 and Aug 26, against the normal average of 843 mm for the period. From Aug 1 to 26, Odisha received 347.7 mm rain, 16.4% higher than the normal average of 298.6 mm, it added.Though June ended with a rainfall deficit, July and August saw surplus showers. July alone recorded 91% excess rainfall. Several districts in north Odisha faced repeated flood-like situations during the season due to intense rainfall. Official sources said Balasore recorded one of its highest rainfall totals in nearly two decades. The district received more than 1,168 mm cumulative rainfall in July and Aug, surpassing a 19-year seasonal record.According to district-wise rainfall data shared by the office of the special relief commissioner (SRC), 21 districts have recorded above-normal rainfall of 19% or more. These are Bargarh, Keonjhar, Subarnapur, Boudh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, Balasore, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Angul, Balangir, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Puri.The remaining nine districts — Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Gajapati — have received normal rainfall. No district has reported deficient or scanty rainfall so far.As per the rainfall report received till 8.30 am on Wednesday, official sources said, Odisha recorded an average rainfall of 3.2 mm in the previous 24 hours. Bamra block in Sambalpur district received the highest rainfall of 49 mm.Rainfall of more than 10 mm was recorded in 32 blocks and five stations under two urban local bodies. Other places that received notable rainfall include Kakatpur in Puri district at 47 mm, Rourkela Municipal Corporation at 33.6 mm, Khairput in Malkangiri district at 33 mm and the North zone of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation at 33 mm.
