Jhunjhunu: A police constable fled with a govt vehicle after allegedly attempting to run over an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team during a trap operation at Chidawa police station on Friday, leaving an ACB constable seriously injured.The incident occurred when the ACB Jaipur team laid a trap to catch constable driver Anil Kumar, who was allegedly demanding a bribe from a vehicle driver by threatening action over timber transportation. ACB Deputy SP Surendra Pancholi said, “After verification of the complaint, the team initiated a trap. As soon as the accused accepted the bribe amount, we moved in to nab him.” However, sensing the trap, the accused allegedly drove the police vehicle recklessly in a bid to escape. When officials tried to stop him near the police station gate, he reversed and sped away, attempting to run over ACB personnel. During the chase, ACB constable Laxminarayan clung to the driver-side window in an effort to stop the vehicle. “The accused rammed him against parked vehicles, knocking him down,” Pancholi said. The constable suffered serious injuries and fell unconscious. He was rushed to a govt hospital and later referred to Jhunjhunu. His condition is reported to be stable. “The accused attempted to take the life of an ACB team member. Strict legal action is being taken,” Pancholi added. The accused remains absconding, and a search operation is underway.
