Kanpur: A constable was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a brick and a belt on a road in Mangal Vihar under the Chakeri police station area late Saturday.Hearing the woman’s screams, locals gathered at the spot, rescued her and took her to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.Chakeri police reached the spot after receiving information and seized the constable’s car.Chakeri SHO Ajay Prakash Mishra said the accused was being questioned. He added that further legal action would be taken after police received the victim’s complaint.
