Shillong: CM Conrad K Sangma has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Govt of India for cutting central excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre for domestic consumption, in light of the prevailing situation in West Asia.“Thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and the Govt of India for the decision to reduce central excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre for domestic consumption in view of the situation in West Asia,” he posted on X.“This timely step will bring significant relief to citizens across the country,” he added.Meanwhile, commercial LPG allocations for all states, including Meghalaya, have been increased to 70% of normal quota, director of the state food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department, Saloni Verma said on Monday. She assured that domestic supply of gas cylinders continues to remain steady in the state.“Now that we are entitled to 70 per cent, definitely the situation will get better for our tourism operators, for dhaba and restaurant owners and hotels,” the director told reporters, adding that the allotment was expected to further increase.Meghalaya’s daily commercial need is about 1,000 cylinders; at 20%, arrivals fell to 200–250 daily, creating shortages for hotels, dhabas and restaurants, Verma informed.However, hospitals and educational institutions continued to receive full allocations, Saloni said.
