Patna: Two conmen posing as tantriks allegedly duped a woman of jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh in Samastipur town by claiming her husband and son were in danger. The incident occurred on Arya Samaj Road under Town police station on Friday.SHO Ajit Kumar said, “A complaint of jewellery cheating near Arya Samaj Road has been received. The victim, Sangeeta Devi, told police she was going from her home in Jitwarpur Dih to Arya Samaj road. She reached Magardahi Ghat by auto and was walking towards Arya Samaj Road when a man started following her.”The man first asked her for an eye hospital’s address. A second man then arrived and addressed him as ‘Pandit Ji’. The duo gained her confidence before claiming her husband and son would meet with an accident.Sangeeta believed them as her husband and son had been involved in an accident days earlier. Her son had recovered, while her husband remained on bed rest.

The duo allegedly threw a substance on her face, leaving her disoriented, before asking her to remove her mangalsutra and earrings and hand them over. They told her to chant ‘Sitaram-Sitaram’, walk to the chowk and not look back.After returning to the spot, she found the duo had fled. Police are scanning CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to identify the accused.
