Vadodara: A 41-year-old businessman, Vishal Vyas, on Wednesday filed a complaint of cheating against a father-son duo at Gorwa police station. Vyas alleged that the accused told him they were relatives of former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik.According to police, around six months ago Vyas had gone to Tapas Patnaik’s home in New Delhi where he met the latter’s son, Ashutosh Patnaik. Vyas said Ashutosh told him that he was a cousin of Naveen Patnaik and an advisor on health to the Indian govt.Ashutosh told Vyas that he was in the business of industrial fuel oil and could supply stock as needed. Vyas, who is also in the business of industrial fuel oil, agreed to do business. On July 15, Vyas ordered a consignment and Ashutosh sent him a bill of Rs 32.67 lakh the next day.The accused allegedly told Vyas that the stock was ready the Kandla terminal and he could make the payment to get the delivery. Vyas told police that he sent his truck to the terminal after which pertinent documents and an invoice was sent to him about the stock being delivered. Vyas then made an online payment of Rs 32.67 lakh to the bank account number given by Ashutosh.After the payment was made, Vyas’s vehicle at the terminal was held up for several hours and the consignment wasn’t released either.
