Congress releases second list of 23 candidates with this tally Congress has released the list of 65 candidates. The party has left 15 seats, including Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central and Morigaon, for alliance partners.

The Congress on Saturday released its second list of 23 candidates for the Assam Assembly elections, taking the total number of nominees announced by the party so far to 65 in the 126-member House.
Three sitting MLAs have been renominated this includes Wazed Ali Choudhury from Birsing Jarua, Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam from Goalpara East and Rakibuddin Ahmed from Chamaria.

Former Lok Sabha MP and two-time MLA Abdul Khaleque will contest from the Mandia constituency.
Government employee turned politician Bipul Gogoi will contest from Tingkhong.Kartik Chandra Kurmi will contest from Rangapara, Santanu Borah from New Guwahati, Kishore Kumar Barua from Dimoria, Nurul Islam from Srijangram and Devid Phukan from Tinsukia.

The Congress has given constituencies for its alliance partners, including Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central, Goreswar, Morigaon, Barhampur, Bindakandi, Behali, Dibrugarh and Diphu, among others.

The party is leading an alliance of Opposition parties that includes the CPI(M) and Assam Jatiya Parishad. The CPI (ML) Liberation also extended its support to the alliance on Saturday.

On March 3, the Congress had released its first list of 42 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, fielding state party chief Gaurav Gogoi from the Jorhat seat.

The Congress was voted out of power in 2016. Currently, the ruling BJP has 64 MLAs in the 126-member Assembly. Its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), have nine MLAs, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has seven and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)has three members. In the Opposition camp, the Congress has 26 MLAs, the All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF)has 15 and the CPI(M) has one legislator. There is also one Independent MLA.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday released its first list of candidates for the 2026 elections, naming 14 nominees across several constituencies in the state.

According to an official announcement issued by the party, the list includes candidates from constituencies spread across Upper Assam, Central Assam and parts of Lower Assam. The announcement was made through a notification signed by Rajesh Sharma, State Prabhari of AAP for Assam.

AIUDF has indicated that it is likely to contest between 28 and 32 constituencies in the upcoming polls. “We are preparing to contest from 28 to 32 constituencies and the final decision will be taken within the next two to four days. Our first list has already been released, where nine seats have been announced, and within the next one or two days the second list will also be released,” AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam said.
