Mandya: Mandya Assembly segment MLA Ravikumar Ganiga launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the reported denial of Rajya Sabha nominations to veteran leader HD Deve Gowda and former MP Sumalatha Ambareesh. The Congress MLA alleged that the BJP treated both leaders unfairly and, in the process, caused injustice to the Vokkaliga community.Speaking to reporters, he claimed that the BJP was systematically weakening the JD(S) and gradually eroding its political base. He said the BJP reduced its alliance partner’s political space while offering only limited representation at the national level. Expressing disappointment over Deve Gowda reportedly missing out on a Rajya Sabha berth, Ravikumar said he was personally saddened by the development. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public display of affection towards Deve Gowda was merely symbolic and intended for public perception.Ravi Kumar contrasted the BJP’s approach with that of the Congress, claiming that the Congress consistently respected Deve Gowda’s experience and stature. He recalled that the party previously supported his entry into the Rajya Sabha, recognising his contribution to public life and national politics.Referring to Sumalatha Ambareesh, he said she made significant political sacrifices despite having a strong public image and support base. He described the denial of an opportunity to her as unfortunate.
