Akola: Yakub Khan alias Yakub Pahalwan, husband of a Congress corporator, was stabbed to death barely a short distance from Ramdaspeth police station on the busy Railway Station-Agrasen Chowk road on Tuesday. Police suspect the murder was triggered by an old rivalry.Eyewitnesses said the assailants repeatedly attacked Yakub Pahalwan with a sharp-edged weapon.As per police, the main accused, Wasim Ahmed alias Chaudya, son of Ghulam Ayub, tried to escape after the attack. But a police constable who was passing through the area overpowered him before handing him over to Ramdaspeth police. The second accused, Irfan Gawli, is absconding.Yakub was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital. As his condition turned critical, he was shifted to a private hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.A murder case has been registered against both accused at Ramdaspeth police station.Patil further confirmed that the sharp-edged weapon allegedly used in the murder has been recovered. He said investigators are collecting CCTV footage, forensic evidence and eyewitness statements to establish the complete sequence of events.Sources said Yakub Pahalwan and the accused had been involved in a dispute and had allegedly clashed a few days ago.News of Yakub Pahalwan’s death spread rapidly across the city, prompting hundreds of supporters to gather outside Icon Hospital. Anticipating tension, police deployed additional security personnel around the hospital and other sensitive locations to maintain law and order.
