Nagpur: A day after the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections delivered a sweeping victory for the ruling Mahayuti alliance, Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal launched a sharp attack on the BJP, alleging that the outcome reflected the use of “power, money and pressure” rather than a free democratic contest.Reacting to the results of polls to 17 Legislative Council seats, Sapkal claimed ruling BJP-led alliance employed “saam, daam, dand, bhed” tactics and described outcome as an example of “might is right” approach. He alleged the process was increasingly being influenced by misuse of state power and political pressure.Sapkal alleged that opposition candidates were pressured to withdraw nominations, faced disqualifications, or were subjected to political manoeuvring aimed at weakening rival parties.Taking aim at the BJP’s organisational strategy, Sapkal claimed the party was pursuing a long-term political objective of creating a “One Nation, One Party” system.Despite the setback, Sapkal said Congress would continue its political fight to protect democratic values and the Constitution.
