Artiste Gurudas Shenoy’s Vijayanagar studio offers visitors more than a glimpse of his paintings; it offers a rare opportunity to enter the world where art is created and discussed. “Nothing compares to meeting an artist in their own studio. People can see how artists live, think and work. ,” says Gurudas. Adding more to it, “Artistes regularly exhibit in professional galleries across India and abroad. But visiting an artist’s studio offers a completely different experience. It’s a personal and one-to-one experience, much like visiting a writer in their workspace or a musician in their home.”Rakhee Shenoy, a third-generation artiste, is also part of the open studio event and is currently collaborating with her father, Gurudas, on a project that translates his paintings into textiles. “I always wondered what my dad’s work would look like if it were converted into textiles. Working with Dad is always an amazing learning experience. His perspective is so nuanced and clear, and I’m trying to learn that clarity from him,” she says.– Karthikeyan Sairam
